The Project

Northern Star Flooring was appointed to carry out refurbishment works to a 487m² flooring area at AAK International’s facility at King George Dock in Hull.

The project involved the removal and replacement of sections of the existing floor, followed by the installation of a new heavy-duty flooring system designed to provide a durable, hard-wearing and hygienic surface suitable for an industrial environment.

Preparation & Screeding

To allow the works to be completed efficiently while maintaining access to the facility, the existing floor was broken out and replaced in three separate sections.

Following preparation of each section, Ardex A38 rapid-setting screed was installed to provide a suitable, stable and durable base for the final resin flooring system.

Working in sections allowed the project to progress in a controlled manner while minimising disruption to the surrounding operational areas.

Resin Flooring System

Once the screeded areas had been prepared and were ready to receive the final finish, the floor was completed using UD200, finished in a distinctive blue colour.

UD200 provided the required durable and hard-wearing finish, creating a seamless surface capable of withstanding the demands of a busy industrial environment.

The flooring system was also finished with formed coving, providing a clean transition between the floor and walls while improving hygiene and making the area easier to maintain.

Project Challenges

Working within an operational industrial facility required careful planning and coordination. The 487m² area was therefore divided into three sections, allowing Northern Star Flooring to manage the breakout, screeding and resin installation progressively.

This approach helped maintain a safe and controlled working environment while keeping disruption to the client’s operations to a minimum.

The Result

After approximately six weeks of works, Northern Star Flooring successfully completed the 487m² refurbishment, delivering a durable, seamless blue resin floor with hygienic coving throughout the completed areas.

The finished system provides AAK International with a robust and practical flooring solution designed to withstand the demands of its industrial environment while providing a clean and professional appearance.
