Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Does Epoxy Flooring Installation Take
This depends on the size of the area and the system being used. A high-build coating on a small floor can be completed in one or two days. A self-levelling screed on a large industrial floor may take several days, including surface preparation.
Full cure (when the floor can return to heavy use) typically takes 5–7 days, though light foot traffic is usually possible within 24 hours.
How Long Will A New Resin Floor Last?
We expect a properly-installed epoxy floor to last between 10 to 20 years, depending on where it is installed and the level of impact is exposed to. Areas with lighter use may see an even longer lifespan than this.
Proper maintenance can help to increase the lifespan of an epoxy floor.
How Does The Existing Floor Need To Be Prepared?
Surface preparation is arguably the most critical part of the installation process.
The concrete must be clean, dry, structurally sound, and free from oil, grease, dust, or previous coatings. Mechanical preparation methods such as shot blasting or diamond grinding are normally used to open up the concrete surface and ensure strong adhesion. Poor preparation is the leading cause of epoxy floor failure, which is why we take the preparation so seriously.
Can Epoxy Flooring Be Applied Over Existing Tiles Or Coatings?
Generally, no. Existing coatings, tiles, or adhesive residues should be removed before application. Epoxy needs to bond directly to a sound concrete substrate. Applying over an unstable or contaminated surface risks failure of the floor.
We can prepare an existing concrete surface for epoxy flooring, or install a new concrete substrate.
How Do I Maintain An Epoxy Floor?
Epoxy floors are low-maintenance. Routine cleaning involves sweeping or vacuuming to remove grit and debris, followed by mopping with warm water and a pH-neutral detergent. Avoid harsh acidic or solvent-based cleaners, which can damage the surface over time. Prompt clean-up of chemical spills is recommended.
Can Epoxy Flooring Be Repaired?
We offer repairs to epoxy flooring installations.
Minor damage such as chips or scratches can often be repaired using patch repair compounds or a fresh application of epoxy to the affected area. Large-scale delamination or cracking may require full or partial removal and reinstatement. Keeping records of the original system specification helps when matching repairs.

Line markings and zone demarcation can also be incorporated during installation or applied afterwards.
Do I Need A Specialist Contractor To Install Epoxy Flooring?
For commercial and industrial applications, yes. Correct surface preparation, product selection, mixing ratios, and application conditions are all critical to a successful installation.
Errors are difficult and expensive to remedy. A reputable specialist contractor with verifiable references and experience in your type of premises is strongly recommended.
