Project Overview

Northern Star Flooring Ltd. was commissioned to upgrade the flooring at Leeds Train Station’s Northern Concourse, working alongside Colt Construction and NWR. With extensive experience of providing flooring for commercial areas, we were able to plan around the operational needs of the station.

The project spanned two months and required night work to minimize disruption to passengers and station operations. The goal was to replace the existing terrazzo tiles with a more durable and modern flooring solution.

Challenges & Requirements

• The existing terrazzo tiles needed to be mechanically removed to prepare the surface.
• A new screed floor was required, ensuring a strong and stable base for the final flooring installation.
• The project had to be executed overnight to avoid interfering with station operations.
• The final installation had to meet both aesthetic and durability standards for a high-traffic environment.

Our Approach

1. Surface Preparation: We began by mechanically removing the old terrazzo tiles, ensuring a clean and level surface for the new flooring installation.
2. Screed Application: A screed floor was applied using Ardex A38, known for its rapid-drying and high-strength properties, ensuring the floor was ready for tile installation without unnecessary delays.
3. Granite Tile Installation: We installed 20mm granite tiles, providing a robust and durable flooring solution that can withstand heavy foot traffic.
