East Yorkshire Kennels

Project Overview

Northern Star Flooring Ltd was appointed to install a durable, hygienic flooring solution at a kennels facility in East Yorkshire. The project covered approximately 200m² and required a system capable of withstanding heavy use, regular cleaning, moisture exposure, and providing a safe, easy-to-maintain surface suitable for an animal care environment.

The chosen solution was a high build epoxy flooring system, delivered within a tight programme of just three days.

The Challenge

Kennels environments demand flooring that is:

• Hard-wearing and long-lasting
• Hygienic and easy to clean
• Resistant to moisture and contamination
• Installed quickly to minimise downtime

The existing substrate required thorough preparation to ensure a strong mechanical bond and long-term performance of the new system.

Our Solution

We specified and installed a fast-curing polyaspartic epoxy system, allowing rapid installation without compromising on durability or finish.

Preparation

• Diamond grinding of the substrate to create a strong mechanical key
• Full vacuum of the surface to remove dust and contaminants

Polyaspartic DPM Primer

• Mixed and applied a 2-part fast-curing polyaspartic DPM primer using squeegees and rollers
• While the primer was still tacky, the surface was broadcast with quartz aggregate to enhance adhesion and performance
• Allowed the primer to fully cure

Polyaspartic Coating

• Applied the first coat of 2-part fast-curing polyaspartic paint using rollers and squeegees
• Once cured, applied a second coat to achieve a high build, seamless finish

Programme

• Total area: ~200m²
• Total duration: 3 days from preparation to final coat

The fast-curing nature of the system ensured the kennels could be returned to use quickly, reducing disruption to daily operations.

The Result

The completed floor provides:

• A seamless, hygienic surface ideal for kennels
• Excellent durability and resistance to wear and moisture
• A professional, clean finish that is easy to maintain

The client was left with a flooring solution designed to perform in a demanding environment for years to come.
