Blast from the Past: Jet2 Refurbishment

Project Overview

Northern Star Flooring was entrusted with a crucial flooring refurbishment project for Jet2, installing flooring for an airport terminal at Leeds-Bradford Airport. With a tight window of just four days, our team worked efficiently while the terminal was temporarily shut for refurbishment. The goal was to rejuvenate the existing installation, which had previously been painted, ensuring a durable and high-quality finish that could withstand the high foot traffic of an airport terminal.

Challenges & Solutions

One of the key challenges was working within the limited timeframe, requiring meticulous planning and coordination. Additionally, the existing painted floor needed thorough preparation to ensure optimal adhesion of the new polyurethane coating system.

To address these challenges, we implemented a multi-step approach:

1. Surface Preparation: The existing painted floor was mechanically prepared to remove any loose material and ensure a strong bond for the new coating.
2. Damp Proofing: We applied Eposeal DPM, a high-performance damp-proof membrane, to provide additional protection and enhance floor longevity.
3. High-Performance Coating: The final step involved applying Polyseal UVR from KDR, a durable polyurethane coating, ensuring a robust, long-lasting, and aesthetically pleasing finish.

Results

Thanks to our expert team and strategic planning, the project was completed within the four-day window. The new polyurethane coating provided a seamless, hard-wearing surface that met Jet2’s high standards for safety and durability. The refurbished floor not only enhanced the terminal’s aesthetics but also ensured long-term performance against heavy footfall and operational wear and tear.
