A leading poultry producer required a robust, hygienic, and long-lasting flooring solution to improve drainage performance within their facility. The existing floor and drainage arrangement was no longer suitable for the operational demands of an agricultural environment, where durability, cleanliness, and resistance to moisture are critical.

Northern Star Flooring Ltd was appointed to carry out a full removal and replacement of the existing drainage and surrounding floor construction, installing a modern stainless steel drainage system finished with a high-performance resin surface.

Challenges

• Existing floor build-up required full excavation to accommodate the new drainage system.
• The environment demanded materials with high chemical resistance, strength, and hygiene compliance.
• Tight tolerances were required to ensure effective falls to drain and a seamless finish between systems.

Our Solution

Northern Star Flooring delivered a complete end-to-end solution:

1. Excavation & Preparation
The existing floor and drainage were fully broken out and excavated to allow for the correct installation depth and falls.

2. Stainless Steel Drainage
A new stainless steel drainage channel and kerb system was installed, providing a hygienic, durable, and easy-to-clean solution ideally suited to agricultural use.

3. Structural Floor Reinstatement
The excavated areas were reinstated using Ardex A38 rapid-drying screed, allowing for fast strength gain and minimal downtime while maintaining structural integrity.

4. Resin Floor Finish
The floor was finished with Sika® UD200SR, a heavy-duty, slip-resistant polyurethane resin system. This provided excellent resistance to wear, moisture, and chemicals, alongside a safe, anti-slip surface.
